This book begins as a conversation between strangers — a family in Canada receives a message from the heart of Gaza: "I am Yousef from Gaza, Palestinian."
Over the months that follow, Yousef sends messages, updates, photos of his nieces and nephews. He sends images of destruction, and memories of his beloved family members and friends. We video chat as bombs quite literally fall. We message, listen and connect, as Yousef and his family survive an ongoing genocide.
This book, "For Yousef," is our conversation, preserved exactly as it happened. The time stamps, the typos, the absences, the worry, and ultimately, the love that grows across two very different and yet, interconnected worlds, brought together by a love for Palestine, and for all of humanity.
This is Yousef's story, about his family, about Gaza, about Palestine. About what it means to survive, to witness, and to hold onto hope.
"A reality that shows the extent of the war and destruction, and how we live despite the pain and create hope from the womb of suffering."
